Autumn's Kiss

the leaves danced in
the inner courtyard,
floating on the air as
light as feathers.
the wooden door to
the pantry,
the jamb swollen
from humidity,
banged against the frame.
she shivered and
pulled her sweater closer
as the chilly imprint of
autumn’s first kiss
caressed her neck.
