Storm

storm clouds—
thick, inky, and ominous—
blot out the sun,
turning day to night.

the wind—
fierce and unforgiving—
howls as its bitterly cold teeth
nip at your hands and ears.

the thunder—
loud and booming—
destroys the silence with
its rumbling cacophony.

the lightning—
swift and bright—
cuts through the darkness like
a surgeon’s scalpel.

the clouds—
saturated to bursting—
unleash with an unnatural fury,
drenching everything in sight.

the rain—
cold and stinging—
leaves the Earth
hungering for sunlight.

the clouds—
fluffy and fleeting—
part to reveal a brilliant sun,
a reminder that heaven does exist.
